The Confidence Corner
The Mistake: When speaking about the inability to do something, English speakers in India often use the phrase "can't able":
- We can't able to come to class tomorrow.
- I can't able to find my keys.
The phrase "can't able" is NOT correct English. Avoid it.
The Correction: Speak correctly and with confidence by using either "can't" or "unable" (not both words) to talk about the inability to do something in the present:
- We can't come to class tomorrow.
- We are unable to come to class tomorrow.
- I can't find my keys.
- I am unable to find my keys.
